In the summer of 2018, twelve students, including myself, will be part of the first Camps International team to travel to Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
For one month during the holidays we will be setting up social and environmental projects to physically improve educational and basic infrastructure to help raise the living standards of a rural community. These projects will be continued over the years by future teams and have a life-changing impact on the people living there.
Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere, with 48% of Nicaraguans living below the poverty line. Costa Rica is one of the world’s most beautiful and bio-diverse countries, and for a group of teenagers to be given the chance to volunteer, explore and learn new skills in parts of the world so different from ours, is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
In order to fund this trip, each member of the team must raise £4080 and we are delighted that Miss Wright, has kindly offered to kick-start our fundraising campaign.
From 21st – £30th March, she will be living under the poverty line by eating only 80p worth of food a day.
Although she will be accessing the usual levels of sanitation and travel costs etc. this will be an extremely challenging task for someone used to our high UK standard of living. However, this does not come close to the hardships faced by millions of people who live in poverty every day.
Miss Wright, will be helping us to raise awareness of poverty as well as helping each of her students to get a little closer to our amazing adventure.
We are all very excited about our trip and any support offered to us will be massively appreciated.
