Extremism, radicalisation and racism explored in workshop

On Thursday 30th March 2017, year 8, 9 and 10 students had a visit from Saltmine Trust, a Christian charity theatre company. The hour-long workshop gave the students an insight into extremism, radicalisation and racism. Students explored the process and effects of radicalisation and of extremism; both far right wing extremism and al Qaida narrative inspired extremism, in an engaging, respectful and thought provoking way.

Feedback from the students was particularly positive, with lots of discussion and debate occurring throughout the school in response.

This workshop supports the work that we do at Ryedale School in Citizenship and PSHE, in response to SMSC, the Prevent Duty and the British Values, set out by the British Government.

The play was exceptionally clear and held the student’s attention throughout the hour long session. The question and answer session was led skilfully by two of the actors and gave students a safe environment to explore the issues around radicalisation and extremism”.
