Year 7 rugby win county tournament

Ryedale School Year 7 Rugby team became the first team from the Scarborough and District area to win the Year 7 East Yorkshire County Tournament.

The team qualified for the event as Scarborough and District champions and travelled to play Hessle school and Kelvin Hall, first and second place from the Hull schools and Beverley Grammar school the Driffield, Beverley and Bridlington champions.

Ryedale played Kelvin Hall in the first game and went two tries down in the early part of the game. The team recovered strongly and finished the game 17-12. The second game against Beverley was a hard fought match against much larger and physical forwards. Ryedale won 37 -14.

Hessle were the final opponents. Ryedale had to win the game to be crowned champions. A formidable performance resulted in the team triumphing by 44-0. Outstanding performances throughout the tournament were by Henry Du Boulay and James Bowsher.

Matthew Saxby the team captain was presented with the trophy.
