Fundraising stars

Emily and Megan from Year 7 have recently completed a sponsored bike ride with their families along the Cinder Track from Scarborough to Whitby (24 miles) raising an amazing £637.00 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Background to their achievement

During the summer holidays, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance landed in our village, to help a child, who in the end went to hospital by land ambulance.

The girls watched the Air Ambulance land on the village green, and they were lucky enough to get a very close look, sit in the helicopter and talk to the amazing team.

Emily and Megan promised the pilot that they would raise some money by doing a sponsored bike ride.

Megan, Emily and their brothers Jack Scott and Joseph Mills got their heads together and decided to do a sponsored cycle ride along the Cinder Track. Without wasting anytime at all, the four children went around the village asking our very generous residents, family and friends if they would like to sponsor them.

The Cinder Track ride

On Sunday 26th October 2019 we all set off to Scarborough to cycle the Cinder Track with 8 bikes.

Working out the logistics took some thinking! Mum’s and four children with bikes were dropped off in Scarborough where the Cinder Track begins. The two dads drove their cars to Robin Hoods Bay, to then cycle towards the children, meeting up just before they arrived at Ravenscar. The dads got to cycle the 6 miles up hill!

After some very muddy miles from Scarbourgh to Ravenscar and several snack stops later we enjoyed the down hill track to Robin Hoods Bay a total of 15miles. Jack, Joseph and mums stopped here for a well deserved rest.

The dads carried on the Cinder Track with Megan and Emily to Whitby.

Just before dark, Emily and Megan completed on bike the full route of the Cinder Track, 24 miles on the clock.

We all met up in Whitby for a fish and chip supper to celebrate and warm up before heading home.

The children raised an amazing £637.00 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Well done to all of you!
