On Tuesday the 24th of February 2015, Ryedale School entered the Youth Speaks competition at Lady Lumley’s School run by the Rotary club. Ryedale School submitted a junior and intermediate team in the competition. Ryedale’s intermediate team did very well, especially as they were made to go first in the proceedings. They made a very thought provoking speech about the benefits of university which I am sure was up there amongst the judges favourites.
The junior team comprised a chair (Ruben Loggie), a main speaker (Harry McMurray), and the proposer of the vote of thanks (Christopher Moxon). We decided to discuss “Humour” as our topic and made, what I hope was a very enjoyable presentation. Our competitors were Lady Lumley’s and Malton schools whose subjects were social media and fracking. Our opposing schools both made excellent speeches and they were a pleasure to listen to. The Ryedale junior team won this heat and are now, excitingly, through to the next round which will take place in York on the 20th March. This next round will have the added challenge of going head to head with the intermediate teams as well as the juniors. Please wish us luck.
