Year 8 girls rugby team push Lumley’s to the last

On Thursday 25th January, Ryedale’s girls rugby team had their first taste of a real rugby match against Lady Lumley’s.

As it was our first match of the season we were a bit anxious, but excited. The game started off well as we lead by 1-0, this gave us confidence to tackle and have a good run with the ball. Lumelys then managed to score their own try and that brought the score to a draw. However, we were not set back and continued to perform our best. The game continued to be end to end bringing the score to 5-5. We all tackled well, and all had a job on the pitch, with Immogen, Courtney and Phoebe holding well in the scrum and myself, Katie, Lily, Autumn, Caitlyn and Niamh keeping the line. Unfortunately, Lumley’s managed to score yet again, increasing the score to 7-5, in the last quarter.

We did not give up and this lead to another try for us.

We had 30sec left, the ball was near Lumley’s try line, but alas the whistle went which lead to a victory to Lumley’s (7-6).

We all tried our best and pleasantly surprised ourselves by our excellent teamwork and communication.

Well Played Girls!
