All of Year 7 and 8 and 9 Music Group 1 will join together with other students in the UK, Europe and the USA to participate in Friday Afternoons, a singing project launched to commemorate the music of Benjamin Britten. Last year’s inaugural event was a great success and the standard of singing was very high indeed. This year students are learning 12 new songs, three by Britten and nine newly-commissioned compositions by a variety of musicians covering different musical styles. This year, because the school hall is being used for mock exams, we are holding our performance during period 5 on Friday 5th December, one week on from the official date of the event.
All students in Year 7 and 8 class music lessons are learning the songs in their tech groups, and will join together for an enjoyable hour to perform the songs to each other. We are looking forward to working on the new material, and it is sure to be a success, given the number of enthusiastic singers in both year groups. As we get nearer the event, we will post more detailed information about it.
