Year 11 students undertake a ‘Drive Alive’ workshop

Drive Alive logoOn Thursday 30th November 2017 Ryedale School welcomed the Drive Alive team to educate our Year 11 students about road safety.

The team consisted of Caron from NYCC and Emily from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue. Also present were David and Janet Warin, the parents of a 17 year old who died in a car accident three weeks after passing his driving test after a night out with his girlfriend at the Cinema in York.

Students unpicked the dangers of drugs and alcohol, as well as the hazards that they may face on the road, both as a driver and a passenger. They also listened to the tragic story behind David and Janet’s loss with great empathy and compassion.

Ryedale School would like to say a huge thank you to David, Janet, Caron and Emily for giving up their time to speak to our young people.

We also hope that our Year 11 students take this message away with them and remain safe on the roads, particularly throughout the coming years as many of them begin to learn to drive.
