‘I am very proud of our students’ performance in the 2016 GCSE examinations and delighted to see their hard work and super attitude justly rewarded. 71% of the year group achieved a C or above in English and maths and 28% of all grades achieved were at A* or A. I am particularly pleased with the progress made by this cohort over their time at Ryedale School which is shown in our anticipated Progress 8* score of +0.5. A confirmed score of +0.5 would mean that on average students of all abilities at Ryedale School achieved half a grade higher per subject than students with the same prior attainment nationally.
I would like to thank students, staff and parents for their hard work in securing such an excellent set of results of which we can all be very proud. I wish all of our students every success in the next phase of their education.’

* This new measure reflects the progress a student makes from the end of primary school to the end of secondary school and I welcome this emphasis on student progress rather than attainment. Progress 8 compares a student’s results with the achievements of other students with the same prior attainment.
‘Our students can feel justifiably proud of their performance and are now able to see the value of their hard work. Many of our students have achieved an exceptional set of results in terms of the number of A* and A grades gained. Equally as impressive are the results of those students who have worked so hard to achieve their target grades and fulfil their potential.
I was impressed by the level of resilience demonstrated by numerous students during the exam period but would like to mention Jack Peace in particular. In between sitting his exams Jack not only competed in but won the FIM World Cup 125 Championship – congratulations Jack on becoming World Champion and achieving 5A* and 4A grades at the same time!
Finally, I would like to wish our students all the very best as they embark upon their chosen Post 16 courses.’
