04.12.14

Well done, we got through a lot of work today in two hours.

We’ve explored minor chorales in preparation for the mock exam, with Chorale 13 and Chorale 14. Chorale answer 12 is here. Remember to use the harmonic minor scale for the chords you write, and the melodic minor version for any passing notes.

Thanks to Elise for getting us to listen to Domine Fili Unigenite from Vivaldi’s Gloria (1715), Beethoven’s Fur Elise (1810) and No one mourns the wicked from Wicked (2003) – three pieces which demonstrate typical style features of their respective periods of music.

We are getting to grips well with Poulenc’s Sonata for Horn, Trumpet and Trombone, 1st movt, and don’t forget to watch the London Symphony Orchestra seminar on this piece – it will help your revision enormously. The Shostakovich string quartet we are studying can be heard here.

Crack on with the homework and try and get a bit of composition done – there’s plenty to be going on with!
