Bewerley Park Outdoor Pursuits for year 8 students
Year 8 pupils are given an exciting opportunity to go to Bewerley Park for a week’s residential course. The course takes place during term time and it is expected all pupils take part. Bewerley Park is located in the heart of the Yorkshire dales and offers high quality outdoor education by using ‘real’ outdoor environments. During the week they take part in a range of activities such as, rock climbing, abseiling, gorge walking, canoeing and team building exercises. On the course pupils are encouraged to develop their personal, social and emotional skills and by asking them to take responsibility for their own decisions it allows them to achieve and recognise their full potential.
Flanders at Easter for year 9 students
In March 2015, Year 9 pupils have the opportunity to visit the Great War battlefields. A thought provoking and moving excursion, the 4 day trip supports the pupils’ history and English poetry studies. Visits will include touring the Somme battlefield in France and the Ieper Salient in Flanders, Belgium. Travel will be by coach and ferry with accommodation at the De Lork Youth Hostel, Ieper, Belgium.
Berlin in July for year 10 students
This 4 day visit is to complement the in-depth study of Germany at History GCSE. It will involve visits to Sachsenhausen concentration camp, the Holocaust Memorial, the Reichstag, Hitler’s Bunker and the ‘Unterwelten’ underground shelters as well as other key sites of German history between the wars and during World War Two.
Music trip to Holland for all year groups
In July 2015, Cantarla Girls Choir and The Ryedale Strayhorns are touring four countries in a week, giving a concert in each country. We will be based in Valkenburg, Holland, but will travel into Belgium, Germany and Luxemburg. The tour will also include some sight-seeing and excursions, as well as meals out and opportunities to enjoy the local culture. The tour is being overseen by Rayburn Tours, who helped to organise our very successful trip to Paris in 2012.
