On Wednesday 24th February the Year 9 Ryedale Netball A and B teams went to Eskdale to compete in the Year 9 Partnership Netball tournament. The A-team came home successful, winning all four matches for Ryedale and the B team came a respectable third behind Ryedale A and Malton.
Ryedale A started off beating Eskdale 23-0 in the 24 minute match due to fantastic game play down the court and accurate shooting from Phoebe Gurling, Hazel Williamson and Abi Smith. In our next match, we faced Lady Lumley’s and had another fantastic win of 14-2 due to fantastic defence and interceptions from Izzy Hurst, Morwenna Talling and Amy Hayhurst. Then we were against Ryedale B team and came away successful winning 12-1 despite the fierce competition we faced against our own team. Polly Mumford and Casey Johnson did some excellent centre court play, bringing the ball down for the shooters. And finally it was Malton, close rivals and a very tense match, only just beating them 9-7 but with great play from all the players and excellent support from the B-team cheering us on.
Well done to all girls that played and brought the cup home for Ryedale.

On Tuesday 15th March, 13 Year 9 girls took part in the Partnership Hockey Tournament. We had to play 3 schools from our area.
The first match against Caedmon was a tough starter but we did eventually get a goal. This was scored by Emma Cockrill and set up by Amber Mason. The next match was against Lady Lumley’s who we beat 4:0. Casey Johnson got the first goal as it wasn’t a great hit out but she took full advantage by being ready to attack. The last three goals came from Emma, with Casey and Polly Mumford setting them up. The last game against Flying Hall was to secure the title of Partnership Champions. We did this with ease as we scored from the word go. Amber took it down the right wing with confidence then crossed it into the ‘D’ where Casey finished it off. The last of the goals came from us making it chaos for their defence by putting a few good shots in before it came off one of their sticks and creeped into the goal. The rest of the girls who played are Georgia Radka, Holly Pearson, Hazel Williamson, Lily Williamson, Megan Degazon, Morwenna Talling, Lucy Walker, Izzy Levin and Amy Hayhurst. Every one of them played really well.

We are very proud of both the Year 9 Hockey and Netball teams for having a very successful season. They have been Partnership and District Champions and only just missed out at the county round in both sports. Both teams have shown a fantastic attitude; they have been hardworking, determined and talented young sportswomen!
