On Tuesday 29th September, Ryedale Schools’ Year 9 Hockey team took part in the District Hockey Tournament.

Everyone in the team gave a huge amount of effort.

The first game we played was against Ampleforth who were one of the strongest sides, but we managed to come out on top for a 2:1 win. This is because of a first minute goal from Amber Mason. Casey Johnson also added another a bit later on.

Next was Scarborough College who we had played a full match against the week before and lost 2:1. But this time we were not going to let them beat us and pulled everything out of our defence to keep the score at 0:0. Abi Smith had a good game but got a stick to the finger, luckily it was at the end of the game. Amy Hayhurst also put some excellent saves to stop Scarborough going in front.

The next two matches were against Whitby and Fyling Hall which were both 2.0 wins. Again Amy had a bit to do but our attackers were on top form with goals from Casey Johnson and Emma Cockrill in the Whitby game. Then Amber Mason and another from Emma.

At the end of the tournament we were crowned District Hockey Champions. We now progress onto the county round.

Well done to all the girls who played.
