Year 11 students experience the ‘Drive Alive’ workshop

On Friday 6th March 2019 Ryedale School welcomed the Drive Alive team to educate our Year 11 students about road safety.

The team consisted of Caron and Mandy from NYCC and David and Janet Warin, the bereaved parents of a 17 year old who sadly lost his life in a car accident three weeks after passing his driving test.

Students unpicked the dangers of drugs and alcohol, as well as the hazards that they may face on the road, both as a driver and a passenger. They also listened to the tragic story behind David and Janet’s loss with great empathy and compassion.

Ryedale School would like to say a huge thank you to David, Janet, Caron and Mandy for giving up their time to speak to our young people.

We hope that our Year 11 students take this message away with them and remain safe on the roads, particularly throughout the coming years as many of them begin to learn to drive and make decisions about getting into vehicles with their peers.
