Year 10 students learn the laws around sex and importance of sexual consent

On Tuesday 25th April 2017 Ryedale School welcomed two trainee barristers into the PSHE department to educate our year 10 students on the laws around sex and the importance of sexual consent. All year 10 students were involved in an hour long workshop which focussed specifically on sexual consent, what it might look like, what is doesn’t look like and the implications of sex without consent.

Students studied the personal effects of rape and sexual assault, as well as the implications regarding the law.

All workshops were highly engaging and carried an extremely important message to our upper school students. I would like to say a huge thank you to the two barristers that delivered this topic in such a fantastic way, as well as a big thank you to our year 10 students who embraced the workshops and engage fully within the activities, enabling them to have more educated opinions regarding sex and sexual consent.

So remember year 10, consent is everything. It’s as ‘simple as tea’. But without consent, it’s wrong!
