Ryedale School Certificate Evening 2019

On Thursday 21st November, Ryedale School welcomed back its former Year 11 students to celebrate their fantastic achievements at GCSE in the summer. This cohort achieved a superb Progress 8 score of 0.5 which places Ryedale School in the top 15% of schools in the country – well done the class of 2019! The evening included an address from former Head Boy Harry McMurray and former Head Girl Georgia Morgan and entertainment from our singer, Gracie Sheriff and pianist, Chris Moxon.

72% of students achieved a Grade 4 or above (standard pass) in English and maths, 52% of students gained a Grade 5 or above (strong pass) in English and maths and 30% of all grades achieved were top grades: A*/A/7/8/9, which is exceptional. Most importantly, students of all abilities achieved success and their individual achievements were recognised on this evening, attended by students, parents and staff.

The following students were presented with a Subject Award or a Special Award on the evening:
English – William McCarthy; English Literature – Harry McMurray; Mathematics – Noah Gittins, Harry McMurray, Conor Saxby; Steve Underwood Award for Additional Maths –Conor Saxby; Triple Science – Conor Saxby; Double Science – Katie Gamble; Award for Computer Science – Benjamin Sinclair Shaw; Geography – Jena Chen; History – Herbert Antcliff; French – Ethan Hawtin; Spanish –Conor Saxby; Foreign Languages – Conor Saxby; Jubilee Cup for Art – Freya Maxwell; Davison Cup for Design Technology – Harry McMurray; Nichol’s Cup for Food Technology – Emma Putsey; Physical Education – Hannah Ellam; Austin Davison Cup for Drama – Aimee Hayhurst; Bob Ing Trophy for Musical Achievement – Alexander Bailey; Award for Performing Arts – Grace Sheriff.

The last of the awards for achievement was for all round academic excellence (best exam results). Alexander Bailey and Harry McMurray were awarded the Wrightson Trophy for achieving seven GCSEs at grade 9, one at grade 8, one at grade 7 and Additional Maths Grade B.
The four Special awards nominated by the Ryedale staff each year were presented to the following students:

  • Mike Scott Award for Supportive Leadership – Ethan Hawtin
  • Thelma Guy Award for Exceptional Achievement – Samantha Atkinson-Barker
  • Heather Linley Award for Exceptional Progress – Scarlett Wilmot
  • Michael Foster Award for Service to School and Community – Georgia Morgan
