Royal Horticultural Society Young School Gardener of the Year 2016

We are delighted to announce that Matthew Cossins has been selected as one of the four finalists in the RHS Young Gardener of the Year competition. Matthew, Joe Ferdinando and Charles Scaling were nominated for this competition because of the excellent work that they have done in helping to set up and maintain the school’s community garden. The team also help to run the Green Welly Club which encourages students of all ages to develop their enthusiasm for horticulture and agriculture.

Matthew Cossins- RHS Competition

Matthew and the team ensure that the community garden always look immaculate and the plants are well tended. He works with the food department to supply herbs and crops for use in lessons and is currently leading the rocket seed experiment for the science department, growing seeds which have been in space!

Matthews knowledge and understanding is outstanding; he demonstrates a passion for gardening and has clearly had a great deal of support and encouragement from home.

Matthew has already won a £400 GoPro camera with which he will make a short film to present at the final at the RHS Garden Wisley, Surrey in July. We wish Matthew success and thank all the students in school who help support our community garden.
