Ryedale School students’ work will be on display at Nunnington Hall between Saturday 28th March to Sunday 10th May.

The exhibition will feature stunning pieces of work produced by students from Ryedale School as part of their GCSE coursework and examination 2015.  The work includes a wide range of styles and demonstrates the use of a range of media including acrylic paint, pastels, mixed media, watercolours and pencil drawings. This is a fantastic opportunity to see work from young local artists inspired by a range of topics.  The work includes pieces based on themes such as ‘Identity’ and ‘Close Up’. Pupils were required to research their topic and select artists to inspire the final pieces.

Urgent Update Re Year 11 Parents’ Evening and Reports http://ryedaleschool.org/urgent-update-re-year-11-parents-evening-and-reports/ http://ryedaleschool.org/urgent-update-re-year-11-parents-evening-and-reports/#comments Fri, 16 Jan 2015 11:58:11 +0000 http://ryedaleschool.org/?p=3673

We have recently experienced problems with our internal computer system and as a result we are unable to print and distribute the Year 11 reports this week. We are working with a technical support company in order to rectify this problem.

Ideally, report information should be available before you make your decisions on the staff you would like to see at parents’ evening. To enable this to still happen, we have decided to use the reserve date for the parents’ evening of Thursday 5th February, rather than the scheduled date of Thursday 29th January.

We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We are aiming to post reports and parents’ evening invitations out to you by the end of next week. If there is any change to this arrangement, we will of course keep you updated.

Throughout December year 7 students have been busy making, icing and decorating their mini Christmas celebration gifts. Students designed their cakes and the end results were eye catching, neat and effective. Well done year 7s, I hope that your families enjoyed them over the Christmas break.

Money Matters for Year 7 http://ryedaleschool.org/money-matters-for-year-7/ http://ryedaleschool.org/money-matters-for-year-7/#comments Tue, 13 Jan 2015 14:24:43 +0000 http://ryedaleschool.org/?p=3568

On Thursday 8th January all year 7 students were involved in a money matters workshop with a number of volunteers from Barclays, Miss Wallis and Mr Williamson. Pupils learnt how to open a bank account, what to look out for when opening a bank account, how to manage a budget and how to plan a function on a budget. The workshop was extremely beneficial and all year 7 students were highly engaged and gained a lot from the event. The volunteers from Barclays were fantastic, as were the students. Well done year 7.

Great Ryedale Bake-Off http://ryedaleschool.org/great-ryedale-bake-off/ http://ryedaleschool.org/great-ryedale-bake-off/#comments Tue, 13 Jan 2015 14:13:21 +0000 http://ryedaleschool.org/?p=3552

Throughout November and December, all year 9 Food Technology students participated in the Great Ryedale Bake Off. All students were given design and planning time, followed by one hour to make their sponge and a further hour to decorate their sponges according to their design. There were some fantastic entries, which made the competition difficult for the judges, but I am pleased to announce the following winners:

1st place= Rebecca Straw

2nd place= Rachel Waddington

3rd place= Sophie Knowles

Runners up were; Daniel Towler, Robert Firby, Molly Hickes, Owen Cowton and Abbie Magson.

Well done to all entry’s and winners.

Miss Wallis

The Hour of Code is Coming to Ryedale School  http://ryedaleschool.org/the-hour-of-code-is-coming-to-ryedale-school/ http://ryedaleschool.org/the-hour-of-code-is-coming-to-ryedale-school/#comments Sun, 07 Dec 2014 09:38:43 +0000 http://ryedaleschool.org/?p=3118

We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and less students are studying it than a decade ago.

That’s why our entire school is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 8-14). Last year, 15 million students tried computer science in one week. This year, we’re joining students worldwide to reach 100 million students!

Our Hour of Code is a statement that Ryedale School is ready to teach these foundational 21st century skills. To continue bringing programming activities to your students, we want to make our Hour of Code event huge.

See http://hourofcode.com/us for details, and help spread the word, or click on The Hour of Code to download a pdf of the flyer below.

Sincerely,

Mrs EJ McGlen
Head of Computing

It has being a busy week in girls PE, and below you can read a match report from Isobel Hurst, captain of the year 8 netball team; they became Ryedale and Whitby Partnership Champions on Tuesday. Congratulations to them and thank you for their hard work.

Mrs Green

Our district tournament was held on Tuesday 25th November at Eskdale. We played 7 matches and won all of them, each match was 6 minuets each way. With fantastic shooting from Phoebe Gurling (GS) and Abi Smith (GA). We scored 97 goals and only let 4 in thanks to our great defence from Nell Thackery and Amy Hayhurst (GK) and Morwenna Talling (GD). All players mentioned previously and Polly Mumford (C), Casey Johnson and Verity Fullerton-Smith (WA) played extremely well and showed great sportsmanship. We hope to carry on the success for our future matches.
