It was great to meet everyone today, and outline the course to you all. We listened to Handel’s Zadok the Priest, the adagio from Mozart’s Gran Partita for 13 wind instruments, and Chopin’s Revolutionary Etude, in the hope that this reminded you all of GCSE Music work. We also had a go at analysing the harmony of a famous hymn by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Down Ampney, trying to understand how to recognise triads and inversions in the key of D major.

Next week I’m looking forward to you either performing or listening to one of your GCSE compositions, and we’ll complete the Down Ampney task, listen to three more pieces from different musical periods, and begin work on the first of our instrumental set works, from Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos. The first weekly homework was set and is attached here too, along with the harmony sheet. See you next week – hope you all come back!
